Orange Eye + Regular Shrimp Breeding Guidance
By: Michael Haesler
1. The initial step involves crossing orange-eyed males with regular (black-eyed) females that exhibit the desired body color.
2. The offspring from this cross are referred to as the F1 generation, which will have 100% black eyes, but all individuals will carry the genetics for orange eyes (OE).
At this stage, it is advisable to remove any individuals that do not showcase the body color you are aiming for.
3. You have two options for using this F1 generation to produce OE animals with the desired body color in the second generation, known as the F2 generation:
Option 1: You can cross F1 males with F1 females, which will yield 25% OE animals in the F2 generation.
Option 2 (recommended ): Alternatively, you can cross OE males (the initial fathers) with F1 females, resulting in 50% OE animals in the F2 generation.
4. From the tank containing the upcoming F2 offspring, select all the OE animals you prefer and set them aside. This will give you your self-crossed OEs that will produce 100% OE offspring. 👍
